Maison Rabih Kayrouz recently moved into its new atelier, housed in a stunning old mansion in Gemmayzeh. Speaking to The Daily Star, Kayrouz said he was ready to start a new chapter, while celebrating both past and possible future success.Kayrouz's interest in fashion started young, propelled by fond memories of shopping for special occasions and picking the perfect outfit. After quitting school at 16 and moving to Paris to further his fashion studies, he trained for several months with Dior and Chanel. In 1995, Kayrouz returned to Beirut and founded his fashion house, where he developed a reputation for designing haute couture and wedding dresses. These days, Kayrouz is more focused on ready-to-wear lines, with simple designs and cuts that utilize beautiful fabrics. With stores in both Beirut and Paris, Kayrouz said he felt it was the contrast between the two cities that really influenced his work."Such contrasts nourish my soul: sun and gloom, beach and city, East and West, man and woman".His next season is still in the works, with Kayrouz preferring to let his designs emerge organically without much planning.
